The Arts of Great Falls is a charitable non-profit foundation in Great Falls, Virginia. It was started in 2008 as Great Falls Foundation for the Arts [GFFFTA] by local artists. The mission was “To expand opportunities for art education, expression and professional development in the Great Falls community, and to network with other individuals and organizations that share these goals.” To that end goal, the group created the 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation and worked toward these goals —
- Created a School of Art to offer professional instruction for children, teens and adults in a variety of mediums through workshops, courses and special programs.
- Provided affordable, shared studio space for artists to rent.
- Offered a gallery venue for showcasing local and regional art.
In the 5th Anniversary year, more changes we made to tweak the organization. We changed our name to The Arts of Great Falls [to put “The Arts” first] and branched out to include performing arts in our mission as well as visual arts. We also added one additional goal to the mission —
- Provide community art events and activites.
Our encompassing approach was good over the next 5 years as we have added more classes and workshops in the school, more working artists’ studio space locations, and created several ongoing and annual art events. We are proud to have made it over 12 years as an art center serving all of Northern Virginia, Maryland and DC.
The Arts of Great Falls is a community-driven foundation. What we do is for the people and other community organizations. We are small operation without any full-time staff, this allows us to be open to new ideas and requests within our mission.

Julie Casso has been with The Arts of Great Falls Since 2012, serving as a consultant and Executive Director. She brings a wealth of experience in organization to the Art School and the Great Falls.
